David has a background in informatics and computer science and holds an MSc and a BEng (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh. He started his career working for Ernst & Young LLP in their Technology Security & Risk services practice and joined the School of Informatics Commercialisation Team in 2007. Between 2007 and 2013, he managed the business development activity for a number of institutes within the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh and he later went on to lead the business development activity in Data Science across the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science grouping.
In 2014, he was the interim Chief Operating Officer for The Data Lab and had responsible for developing the bid in partnership with industry, public sector and academic partners. His main interests are in helping companies and public sector partners apply cutting-edge analytics and data science techniques to achieve commercial or social benefit. In his current role, David is responsible for business development in data science at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.
