Dr Tony Robinson obtained his PhD from Cambridge University Engineering Department in 1989. For the next decade he led the connectionist speech recognition research group in the university. He started his first company in 1995 and has founded or been involved with a large number of start-ups in the last two decades - including SpinVox, Softsound and Autonomy - mostly in the area of speech recognition and machine learning. He is pleased that the techniques he pioneered in the 1990s are now in vogue. His passion is the application of machine learning algorithms to tasks that traditionally had been considered impossible for computers to solve.
