AI and IoT Applications for Future Cities; a Society-centric Perspective
This talk presents a society-centric approach to future cities and explores innovative applications of AI and IoT technologies in the context. This includes solutions for mobility, sustainability, security and connectivity. The talk explores individual optimization solutions that serve as “plug and play” blocks for future cities as well as integrated solutions that must be implemented from the design stage of a new city and have a decisive role to play in infrastructure decisions. The key areas addressed are, Energy, Food, Autonomous vehicles, traffic optimization, safety, health and wellness, governance, connectivity, retail and automation.
Farhan is an emerging technologies think tank and strategist at the office of the CTO at Huawei. His research focuses on innovative application of AI and IoT technologies for future cities, with society rather than technology at the center. Before moving to Toronto, he called Tokyo home, working in the semiconductor robotics industry and a “Deep learning of Things” startup in Japan. Farhan holds a PhD in MPSoC design from Tokyo Institute of Technology (TiTech), Japan; MSc in Electrical Engineering from Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm (KTH), Sweden and BE in Computer Engineering from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Pakistan.
