Robert Thielicke is Editor in Chief of Technology Review, the german edition of MIT Technology Review. Prior to this, he was science editor for the german weekly Focus for 10 years. He has a degree in Biology and Anthropology. For him, digitalization is not merely a technological watershed, it will be one for society as well. From Big Data to The Internet of Everything, from Automation to Wearables, it will shape how we work and live. The technologies are both a menace and a hope, making us dependent on algorithms, but at the same time show us the way how to inhabit a planet with 9 billion people sustainably. It is on us to define the rules that avoid the dangers and use the chances. The coming years will be decisive.
