Naren Chittar is a machine learning and AI expert. He is the founder of MinHash, which Salesforce acquired, and is the creator of AILA, a virtual assistant for ecommerce marketing teams. He has worked on a wide range of problems in search, recommendations and personalization. At his time at eBay he created a new data science team that built a lot of the science behind their search with features like autocomplete, query recommendations, query classification etc. He also worked in a small incubation lab at eBay for the VP of Engineering. At eBay he took several of his ideas live, starting with simple prototypes. He is the co-creator of eBay’s image search technology, autocomplete and its first similar items recommendations system.He has worked as a technical expert on three acquisition efforts for eBay.

He has 15 years of experience in IT and previously worked on mobile speech recognition at Promptu and security applications at Citibank. He has several patents granted and pending in the areas of recommendation systems, image search, image quality and speech recognition. He has published numerous papers in top tier conferences and was on the program committee for posters at WWW 2012. He has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
