Moving Fast and Breaking ground: Where to Start with AI Ethics

We know technology moves fast, and sometimes gets it wrong. AI ethics is a new discipline seeking to tackle the risks, as well as the opportunities, of these new technologies. But where do you start if you're the first incumbent of a 'responsible AI' role? Myrna will talk through her experience building a responsible ML framework at the BBC, and scoping AI ethics at Ocado Technology.

Myrna is responsible for identifying how to use data and machine learning to keep Ocado at the cutting edge of eCommerce, product supply chain and robotics. Her work focuses on ensuring that the technology Ocado develops facilitates public trust and meets its sustainability goals.

Previously Myrna led responsible ML at the BBC, where she designed the first comprehensive standard for responsible ML in media, the BBC’s Machine Learning Engine Principles. Her work implementing these standards spanned BBC’s work on recommendation algorithms, data sharing, synthetic media and AI explainability.

Myrna is a former British diplomat. She has worked on international economic and climate negotiations, and served as Head of the Political team at the British Embassy in Pristina, Kosovo and Head of Middle East Peace Process Engagement at the British Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.
